It's adorable! Very cute and charming, with such a strong fairy-tale vibe to it. And I just kept thinking 'Yes, this feels like something Butter would make' while I was playing. In a good way! The art is so pretty and magical, and all the special transitions and sparkly effects add so much to the atmosphere, too. 👌
And the characters! Brielle really is the ultimate fangirl lol. 🤭The little sequences where she admires Julian are pretty funny, but I think that makes her character very disarming and sweet. I also liked that pretty boy Julian is a bit self-centered and has a little scheming side to him (very curious what he's up to and what happened between him and his brother 🤔).
Oh, and I loved the idea with the seed! I hope we get to see more cool magic in the full release. ^^
I was blown away by the presentation of the story! I loved all the little surprises and the amount of character to be found in the narration, characters (mainly Julian rn), and the setting! I love how much you think about your stories Butter; and how self indulgent you are! I can truly see your vision and buy into the world you’ve shared with us!
I didn’t know what to expect really at all, and it was a pleasant surprise through and through! I am more than ready for the full demo/full release! 💖🙏
Ohhhhh!! This was so absolutely lovely so far! It was a wonderful little prologue to set the tone for the rest of the story, and I'm so intrigued now as to whether this is going to somewhat follow the Beauty and the Beast Tale or if it's going to veer off completely (especially as I noted inclusion of other fairy tale references already, so I have no idea lkajdfad)
The visual and GUI were so stunning! I loved all the use of animations and how delicate everything felt. Truly like the pages of a fairy tale storybook! And the use of the watercolor BGs was wonderful! It created a very soft yet immersive vibe for the story.
The story had me giggling a few times already, especially with how Julian apparently likes to name everything as A, B, C, etc. 🤣 It was so silly!! Also the inclusion of the German words made me laugh a little bit kjasdaf
So curious now who the old man is that Julian mentioned, as well as what Brielle's role will be in the story 🤭 A beautiful and compelling start so far! I'll be so excited to see how the story finishes!! 😍
Well, the base of the story is beauty and the beast (for Julian) and The little mermaid (for Brielle), and since Julian is more our protag for this (though he witches sometimes with Brielle later on), the story is really more beauty and the beast. (But definitely, some other fairytales will inspire the plot!)
AND OH GOSH I'M VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THAT YOU LOVE THE ART.
(Honestly I was worried for the art. I got the idea at the start of December but only got to writing and finalizing the script until December 26, so all the art was really rushed! I had to just manipulate stock photos for the BG and then focus on the GUI and sprites so I'm really relieved!!!!!
(I'm happy you enjoyed how Julian names the bats hahaha! It will have significance later on, but lol the major reason is that I'm the same hahahaha, I named my Harvest moon cows Moo A, Moo B, Moo C or Choco A, Choco B, or just plain Cream or Milk.
(I am VERY bad at naming stuff afcdgscdgcf)
(For chickens I named them Chee A, or Omelette A)
And Aaaaahhh!!!! I still plan on updating the demo btw!!!! The full planned demo is 9k words!!!!! And I wanted to finish the scene Brielle was in but it was already 3 hours before the deadline for me so I had to cut the script. But hopefully I release the full demo by the weekend or by Monday! Aaaaahhh I'm excited about your thoughts then!!!!
This was INCREDIBLY gorgeous. It's so atmospheric and dynamic with all of the different effects (the start menu, in particular, is absolutely stunning!) The GUI is one of the PRETTIEST that I've ever seen, Julian and Brielle's sprites are lovingly rendered, and the backgrounds are incredibly lovely and dreamlike. The audio is so soft and peaceful/vaguely melancholic; it sets the dreamlike atmosphere well.
This beginning portion characterizes Julian very well and sets the melancholic tone excellently, and it ends on a nice cliffhanger to keep the player interested in the next parts.
Congrats on the release, and I'm looking forward to seeing the updates!!
First of all, the art was GORGEOUS, the way the backgrounds were edited, the sprites, the transitions, the GUI, everything looked absolutely extraordiary!!!!!!
The writing was also very elegant, and it offered a very interesting view on Julian's life. So far, the demo contains the initial situation of the tale and stops at the twist: this makes quite the cliffhanger, but this was a very good stopping point, making us all long for more!
Congrats on pulling this demo before the deadline, excited to see the following updates!!
